Novartis – a global healthcare company based in Switzerland that provides solutions to address the evolving needs of patients worldwide – has joined with the Independent College Fund of New Jersey to be the inaugural partner in a Mentorship Program. Fifteen Novartis Science Scholars will add to the financial support of a scholarship, the power of knowledge as they learn about the breadth and scope of opportunities available within an international pharmaceutical company. Working with a mentor, students will gain insights into corporate culture, effective communications, team building and career planning. A launch event at Novartis in East Hanover brought mentors and mentees together to begin a semester-long mentorship with a face-to-face meeting. Students received a Top Ten list of things to consider as a mentee along with a toolkit of topic starters and meeting suggestions.
Many thanks to Novartis for its work in assembling a talented and committed group of mentors whose enthusiasm will encourage students to make the most of this new opportunity. Feedback from the Novartis Mentorship Program will serve to guide efforts to make mentorships a standing component of scholarships administered by ICFNJ.
