Higher Education Leaders Testify at Assembly and Senate Budget Hearings

May 27, 2025

FDU President and NJ Presidents’ Council Chairman Michael Avaltroni was joined by Secretary of Higher Education Brian Bridges, HESAA Executive Director Margo Chaly, Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway, Thomas Edison State University President Merodie Hancock and Union College of Union County President Margaret McMenamin at the recent Assembly and Senate budget hearings on higher education.

The four presidents continued their advocacy for the restoration of operating aid to all sectors, the restoration of funding for Summer TAG (Tuition Aid GrantS) and the need for capital funding not only for new projects but also for routine maintenance.

At both committees, there was bipartisan support for the restoration of as much of the proposed reductions as possible.

We urge supporters of ICUNJ and supporters of higher education to offer your support for these restorations in any conversations you may have with elected state officials or staff.
