Innovations, Collaborations and Cost Savings Prompted New Conversations at ICUNJ’s Annual Networking Reception

Jun 10, 2025

From the patio of historic Mead Hall on the Drew University Campus, one could hear conversations engaging business, community and academic thought leaders in addressing the issues facing independent higher education and the students preparing to join a dynamic workforce on the sun filled evening. Opportunities to promote access and affordability while meeting business and social goals were introduced and explored – business cards exchanged. And while looking over the expansive campus lawn where just weeks prior students, family and friends had gathered for graduation, the impact of technology on current workforce demands was also discussed, including how colleges would implement changes to meet industry talent needs. The hum of conversations confirmed that this was once again ICUNJ bringing together the constituents of independent higher education to foster new relationships and keep pace with industry.

Programming was kept to a minimum allowing the most time to be dedicated to networking. The brief program kicked off with welcoming remarks by Drew University President, Dr. Hilary Link. Time was also dedicated to recognizing key contributors to independent higher education. This year, two outgoing presidents were honored for their commitment to students, advocacy for higher education and promotion of the value of a college education. Dr. Joseph Marbach, former President, Georgian Court University, and Dr. Greg Dell’Omo, President, Rider University were present to receive much deserved recognition for their years of unwavering support for their students and institutions. Acknowledgement of their efforts came not only from the crowd assembled but through State resolutions and notes of appreciation from the Governor.

ICUNJ works to keep students at the center of its focus. On June 10th, Maryann Dillon, Drew University, ’25, B.S. in Biology and Psychology, captivated guests with her story of pursuing a dream. Ms. Dillon enthusiastically recognized the impact of choosing Drew University and remaining in the State of New Jersey to pursue her college degree. She spoke of the welcoming environment, the exchanges in the classroom and labs, and the support she received that was more than just financing her education. It prompted her to recognize the confidence others had in her and how empowering it was in her development. Her independent research, evaluating the possible use of ketamine as an antidepressant for treatment-resistant depression, and presentation of findings at the ICUNJ Symposium unlocked her hidden potential. It contributed to her self-assurance and became a priceless experience. Click for Maryann Dillon’s comments.

Corporate sponsorships encouraged decision makers from Chief Financial Officers to Facilities Managers, Academic Deans to Career Services, and Chief Information Officers to Alumni Relations from all 13 member institutions to attend.
