Tips for Completing the ICUNJ Scholarship Application.

Application Form:

This document creates the first impression of you.  Complete it as neatly as possible.  Do not leave any blanks.  If there is a question that does not apply to you, simply respond with “not applicable,” or “n/a.” Please be sure your name is at the top right of every page of your application.

Personal Statement:

Here you can share the unique attributes that make you the right choice for a scholarship.  The word count is limited requiring you to be thoughtful and concise.  The review committee understands the value of a college education.  They want to understand the value it offers you specifically and the reasons you are a strong candidate.

When possible include an example that illustrates your point.  Rather than “I am a strong leader” share a success story “I orchestrated a community outreach program with four peers to address hunger in Camden” or “I led a group of peers through two discovery projects as part of a larger independent research program.”

Transcript:

ICUNJ does accept unofficial copies of transcripts.  Please make sure it is an unofficial transcript from your college not just a printed listing of your courses and grades.  An official transcript must come from the college to ICUNJ directly. An unofficial transcript can be obtained by you and included with your application.  It should contain all the same information as the official transcript.

Reference letter:

Select the author of your reference carefully.  Given that scholarships are provided to assist students in their pursuit of a college degree, the most impactful letters tend to come from professors familiar with you and your academic work. Scholarships are often designed to contribute to the next generation in an industry. References from your field of study will have the most relevancy and impact.

Resume:

Your resume provides a complete picture of you — academics, work and community engagement.  Be sure to note your accomplishments and experiences.  If applicable, include your impact at the workplace or on a project.  Dates are important — include them.
